Southern Baptist Can’t Stop Talking About Gay People

Reval

President R. Albert Mohler wants a cure for homosexuality! Rev. Mohler, president of the leading Southern Baptist seminary suggest publicly a biological basis for homosexuality and wants prenatal treatments to help prevent it. Why can’t the Southern Baptist stop talking about Gay Americans all the time?

The president of the leading Southern Baptist seminary has suggested that a biological basis for homosexuality may be proven, and that prenatal treatment to reverse gay orientation would be biblically justified.

The Rev. R. Albert Mohler Jr., president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., and one of the country’s evangelical leaders, posted the article on his personal Web site earlier this month.

Mr. Mohler said in the article that scientific research “points to some level of biological causation” for homosexuality.

In another post from the President of the leading Southern Baptist seminary he states:

We hope for modern science to heal our diseases and excuse our sins. The Bible will not allow this evasion. Our sinful behavior, rooted in biology or not, is a matter for which we are fully accountable. After all, as the Psalmist confessed: "Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me" (Psalm 51:5).

Visiting with one of my friends today who is in the ministry about the newest story from the Baptist he commented:

Don't blame Christians . . . just those in particular faiths! Actually, I'm kind of thrilled.
If this University Professor is willing to concede that there is a biological genetic possibility for sexuality then they will have to compare scriptural arguments to reasons for not accepting the way folks are born.  He has opened a door that will force the Southern Baptist to discuss this issue in a whole other arena.  The Rights of the Unborn, The Rights of the Physically Challenged, The morality of Biological and Genetic engineering!

I just know that I don’t make this stuff up; life is so much stranger than fiction...

Lost Tomb of Jesus Documentary Sparks Heated Debate

Discovery Channel and film director James Cameron are challenging the very foundation of Christianity. A new documentary airing on The Discovery Channel, “The Lost Tomb of Jesus”, created by Cameron will be broadcast March 4th. The documentary claims to have found the final resting place of Jesus of Nazareth. Ten burial boxes that where commonly used in the days of Jesus where uncovered in the suburbs of Jerusalem in 1980. The tomb bears the names Jesus, Mary and Joseph and one of the caskets even bears the title, "Judah, son of Jesus," The documentary and heated debate raging over the finding and claims has all sides involved; unprecedented since "The Da Vinci Code" was released.

“It doesn’t get bigger than this,” says Cameron. “We’ve done our homework; we’ve made the case; and now it’s time for the debate to begin.”

Personally I think Carl Sagan summed up this type of breaking news event best: Skeptical scrutiny is the means, in both science and religion, by which deep thoughts can be winnowed from deep nonsense.

Man Banned from Tulsa Mosque for Publishing Anti-Terrorist Comments

A local Tulsa man is banned from his south Tulsa mosque. Jamal Miftah claims he has been banned from The Islamic Society of Tulsa for sending a letter to the editor of the Tulsa World in response to a recent video released by al-Qaida.

In the published letter Miftah states that al-Qaida leaders “are cowards for using young people to carry out attacks” and that Islam is a peaceful religion and terrorist such as Osama bin Laden should be brought to justice. Reaction from the Tulsa Muslim community according to Mr. Miftah has been mixed.

While some Muslim community members have been positive and supportive others have gone so far as to ban him from Mosque functions.  Miftah claims local Muslims have also reacted violently in response to the published letter and a police report has been filed with Tulsa Police.

Miftah states the leadership has instructed him that he will not be allowed back into the Mosque until he “apologizes” and “takes back his letter”. News Channel 9 in Oklahoma City has a broadcast online of the news report.

On a personal note: The Mosque in question is in my neighborhood. I have lived in the area now for two years and have had nothing but positive experiences with those attending worship. Parking can be a bit of a problem during prayer as their mosque has grown in members in recent years. However as someone trying to be a good neighbor, open minded and accepting; I find this story very disturbing. The actions of some mosque members and their leadership in reaction to the letter would lead outsiders, like myself, to question; if they are not “anti-terrorist” then what are they?
