The Boss is Back and it’s Magic

Bruce Springsteen is back in true form with the release of Magic including the E-Street Band. Reviews already all say that Bruce has returned with the big E-Street sound and not a single track is a dud. Looking tanned, well rested and wiser, Springsteen the lyric master sounds resigned and angry about the world around us today in this newest album. Once again, Springsteen demonstrates brilliant insight into a variety of subject matters. He masterfully combines driving rhythms with lyrical observations. With so many poor releases in the music industry Magic does just that, performs magic and gives us a seminal Bruce Springsteen album amongst a vast wasteland of modern rock music. Check out the deal at amazon.com on the new cd or the Sony High Quality VINYL LP.

Remembering Elvis

Young Elvis 1957 Rare Color of "Jailhouse Rock"

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Thousands of Elvis Presley fans braved 105-degree heat as they wound down Graceland's driveway in a graveside procession Wednesday in advance of the 30th anniversary of the singer's death.

The heat led to the death of a fan from New Jersey, a 67-year-old woman.

Despite the promise of another furnace-like day, some fans began lining up early in the morning for the candlelight vigil, setting up umbrellas and folding chairs on the sidewalk along four-lane Elvis Presley Boulevard. The memorial was expected to run through the night and into Thursday, the death anniversary.

A Voice of an Angel on Britain's Got Talent

I try not to go too YouTube crazy on my blog but this little British singer is the most amazing I have ever heard on any talent show. Here I am sitting in Oklahoma, a former ranch hand, former law enforcement, tattoos, all 6'1" 200 lbs of a tough guy and I am tearing up at this amazing, sincere, honest, and innocent rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". Simon Cowell was amazed and you will be too! Find some tissue and prepare to be blown away. I just hope she wins and gets to sing in front of Queen Elizabeth!

Update: She didn't win but she made it to the finals. The winner this year was Paul Potts a cell phone sales man who turns out is a mind blowing tenor opera singer.

Shit Disco --- OK

Remember those pop up children story books with the crazy slides and paper pop ups loaded with springs?  These where pretty popular in the 1970's when I was growing up and the band Shit Disco decided to be very creative and use one of these interactive story books to film a very cool music video. So it's time for your Sunday music break! Enjoy this amazing video using nothing more than some cool beats and a children's story book.

Keith Richards Snorts His Father’s Ashes

Rolling_stones_tongue

Only Keith Richards can cop to snorting a line of his Dad’s ashes and everyone automatically believe him. In an interview published today by NME, a British music news magazine, Richards now age 63 claims to have mixed a line of his Father’s ashes with cocaine and provide his Dad with a unique send off.

He said: "The strangest thing I've tried to snort? My father. I snorted my father. He was cremated and I couldn't resist grinding him up with a little bit of blow."

"My dad wouldn't have cared, he didn't give a shit. It went down pretty well, and I'm still alive."

Introducing John West

I wanted to share with my readers this week a musician I have been listening to for the past few months. Louisiana native John West based out of Los Angeles has become a myspace music phenomenon with over one million plays of his recently released single “Keep It Together”. West describes his music on his web site saying:

Soul without crooning, and pop without gloss. "In life, its scary when you've never experienced something before, but if a song can be a guide, or a roadmap, that's a beautiful thing," says the now L.A.-based Southern boy who cites Otis Redding, Cat Stevens, Jill Scott and Jack Johnson as primary influences. "What I love about people's reaction to my music now is that people tell me it soothes and relaxes them. It helps them get through hard days easier. And the reason I wrote half of these songs was to get through my own hard days."

Personally I love the music browsing aspect of sites like myspace and iTunes. I am sure millions of talented musical artist years past have gone unknown to many of us, until now. The internet is sweeping away what corporate music companies want to package to the masses. Trust me on this post and take a music break, turn up your speakers and check out some of John’s recent tracks.

Remembering John Lennon

John Lennon; one the greatest musical talents of the 20th century has been in the news some these last couple of weeks. His murderer, Mark Chapman, was denied parole again this month. October also marked what would have been John’s 66th birthday and some television specials have been airing documenting his musical career and steadfast work in the peace movement during the Vietnam War. After doing some research on John Lennon on the web today I found a beautiful official web site for John Lennon fans like myself.
Feel free to visit JohnLennon.com

I would also like to share a rare performance of John Lennon singing “Imagine”.

Willie Nelson Busted Yet Again!

Willie_nelson_150dpi_2
Willie has gone and done it again! Willie Nelson got busted in Lafayette, Louisiana this week when his tour bus was stopped for a commercial inspection and a cloud of pot smoke engulfed the officer upon entering the vehicle. Found in Willie’s tour bus was ½ pound of pot and a 3.2 oz bag of psychotropic mushrooms which is a natural and much milder version of LSD. The ages of the men who where toking it up and tripping with Willie on his tour bus is what cracks me up! The ages of the men arrested are 75, Willie at 73, 59, 54 and the youngster of the group at age 50!

Willie Nelson has always been an idol of mine growing up in Texas and being raised on his music. His adventures have always amazed me. From being asked to stay at the White House in the 1970’s by then President Jimmy Carter and smoking a joint on the roof with a secret service agent to his social activism helping the American farmer with Farm Aid. Recently Willie has tackled the issues of alternative bio fuels and bucked the homophobic tendencies of Country Western music by writing and releasing “Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly (Fond of Each Other)” for the movie “Brokeback Mountain “.

The good news is that Willie and his friends where only citied citations for the drug infraction and where released the same night as the arrest. The pot smoking hippy legend is “On the Road Again”. How much do you want to bet he has already scored some more pot and is rightfully smoking it up and sticking it to the man?!?!?

On a side note: Willie Nelson has recently released his box set "The Complete Atlantic Sessions" of his recording with Atlantic Records. For those not familar with his music or want to learn more and hear some samples I have included a link to Amazon.com.
